Amsterdam: Aussie brunch at Little Collins

??????????????????????????????? ???????????????????????????????

All the way from Melbourne, another class act brunch restaurant in Amsterdam has been tried and tested. Little Collins has been around for a little while now, but as Amsterdam’s brunch scene has exploded over the last couple of years, I’ve had a hard time keeping up. What I love about this place, besides the warm and cosy feel, is the fact that you can actually book a table for brunch. This may seem trivial, but most restaurants will not take any bookings, which means you have to set off early or be prepared to be disappointed.

On to more important things, the food and drinks on offer. Besides offering some really authentic Aussie classics, I was struck by the original and varied drinks menu. I had already decided no alcoholic beverages were to be had on that fateful Sunday afternoon and as my friends had the same inclination, I managed to stave off temptation. That said, I will definitely return for their signature drink, the Little Collins Bellini, consisting of Collins style prosecco with fresh rhubarb.

Now as I’m nuts about all things coconut I had to try their coconut toast. The coconut crumbed French toast comes with a generous splurge of lemon curd and baked apple. I threw in a poached egg for good measure (no it’s not disgusting); it actually enhanced all the flavours. Usually more of a savoury person when it comes to brunch, this really was a delightful surprise.

Little Collins offers a very original brunch menu and I love that their dishes are a little more adventurous, something you’d expect from the folks down under, however, I think every brunch restaurant should have pancakes on the menu. Apart from that, two thumbs up.

  2. Gosh rhubarb in a Bellini, who wouldn’t want to try that? #TastyTuesday.

  3. Wow, what a mix of flavours and ingredients! I love brunch but I tend to go for classic savoury dishes, but I might be tempted to stray in a place like this. Yum!

  4. Right, @Sarah Wheeler, it sounds divine doesn’t it, must go back for that purpose alone. Thanks for your comment.

  5. Me too @Franglaise Cooking, I always go for a savoury brunch, but this combo was pretty good. That said, nothing beats fluffy pancakes and good ol’ eggs benedict. Thanks for commenting. #Tastytuesdays.
